Ulverstone boy, proud Tasmanian and Fremantle footballer Alex Pearce joins the pod to chat about his love for his home state, his journey through sport on the coast and his pathway into being drafted by the Fremantle Football club. Alex has endured a number of setbacks through his footy journey but this has led to him gaining a more widespread appreciation for life and his value as a person outside of football. He speaks openly about his darkest times, how he got himself out of the rut he was in and what he learned about himself and mental health as a whole and what he aims to do post football. We chat about moving interstate as an 18 year old, being elevated into Fremantle's leadership group, captaining the club and his views on leadership. He speaks about meeting players he looked up to and how being bashed up by Matthew Pavlich was one of the best learning experiences he has had as a footballer. Alex also speaks about his indigenous heritage, being accepted into Fremantle's indigenous brotherhood, racism in the AFL which unfortunately is still very present, how he hopes to support his team mates through this and his hopes for society in regards to education on indigenous culture. So much great content in this one, Alex is an articulate man and a proud NW coaster who is a pleasure to chat to and gives a very rounded view of life as a footballer and more importantly the type of person he wants to be in society.
